The Eden Garden project aims to empower women in the village of Suma Kunda, an hour’s drive from Banjul, through gardening.
To achieve this objective, we are going to set up a gardening women self-help group from the village.
Véronique, who already has responsibilities in her community, agreed to become the person responsible for setting up the women’s self-help group.
All the women of the village work in the fields.
A plot of arable land of around 2,000 m² is being made available free of charge to this women’s group by Francis Gomez, the founder of ABBA Bilingual School for an indefinite period.
Toussaint, a young agronomist with a passion for agriculture, will be joining the project to contribute his experience, particularly in the field of economic management.
We will have two boreholes. The water is around 25 metres deep and we’ll be using solar panels.
Initially, 20 women from the village will benefit from this project and after an initial assessment, we will welcome new women.
The aim of this project is to enable these women to earn a decent income from their work and to be able to pay their children’s school fees, as well as covering their health costs.
It is also to help them find their own place in a supportive working community.
